APS-UES Meeting Minutes - 02/27/2017

Attendees: Bruce Glagola, Wendy VanWingeren, Nena Moonier, Clay White, Bruno Fieramosca, Shane Flood, and Patti Pedergnana

Guests: Tom Barkalow, George Srajer, Joel Fuerst, Kenneth Volin, Elroy Chang, Jeff Collins

Ken Volin

  • Ken Volin discussed the dewar inspection and inventory at the APS.  The drivers for the inspections are 10CFR851, LMS-PROC-313 and LMS-PROC-331, pressure and LN2 safety documents.  External visual inspection of all Argonne-owned portable dewars is to be done every three years.  Vendor-owned liquid helium dewars, large storage LN2 located outside, LN2 distribution system and fill stations, LN2 cryocoolers, non-pressurized LN2 dewars, dry shippers, and thermos type dewars do not need inspection.
  • Every dewar has a DOT-4L specification on it.  It will be metal and permanently affixed to the dewar.  It will have a service pressure (right next to the 4L, i.e. DOT-4L200 is a 200 psi), model number, serial number, and date of manufacturer – all to be recorded.  Wear safety glasses when looking at labels due to pressure relief near the labels.  The APS Pressure Vessel System tag needs to be placed on the dewar, replacing the red and green dots from the previous inventory.  The tag should be placed on the top of the dewar, not the side, placed near the DOT label.  Next check three points per the inspection checklist, noting overall condition of the dewars, functionality of the pressure gauges, and that pressure relief devices are intact and do not exceed maximum allowable working pressure specified on the model tag.  Note if the dewar passes inspection or if there are issues to be corrected.  Return the forms to Ken Volin.  The experimental floor, labs, truck locks, beamline enclosures including roofs, and LOM hallways should be checked for dewars.  The inventories should be completed by March 31, 2017.  Call Ken Volin at 2-6092 if there are any questions or anything odd found.
  • Ken will send his presentation and link to the form via email to the meeting attenders.  Patti will add a link to this form on the group’s forms roster on the homepage.

Bruce Glagola

  • Bruce asked Clay to have the machine shops in order prior to an upcoming site visit.

Patti Pedergnana

  • Patti asked if Dean left eyewashes, LOTO or LSI instructions for anyone.  Bruno will take care of 431 and 437 issues and Shane will do 438 issues.  Wendy will flush the 438 eyewashes.
  • Joe Gagliano will be investigating the 7-ID PSS PS2 fail to open warning from last week.  He needs to get on the machine studies schedule with no beam.
  • Patti will check in the Julich contractor at 35-ID-C tomorrow morning at 0800.

Wendy VanWingeren

  • There are three radioactive sample experiments starting this week.
  • 10-ID left a voicemail with Wendy about changing their Insertion Device commissioning limit after the on-duty FC had left for the day, weekend hours.  The MCR was called and Mike Merritt or John Grimmer was contacted to make the change.

Bruno Fieramosca

  • Bruno replaced the ozone monitor at 35-ID-D.  The old monitor was issued to Sector 15.
  • There was an official memo sent by Steve Davey for 4-ID-C, that as long as vacuum is intact that the realignment of the differential pump can be done.  Patti will add this to the special notes field on the Wiki page.
